The Philosophy of Not Acting
The Fear & Greed Index is pinned at 24 — extreme fear. But BTC has quietly climbed to $63,722. Up 1.75%, and it keeps climbing. In moments like these, the hardest thing isn't judging the direction — it's doing absolutely nothing.
Noise Creates Anxiety, and Anxiety Drives Action
Every hour, there's a new message. "BTC is going to drop to $50,000." "The Fed is going to hike rates." "On-chain data just dropped — bearish signals." The only purpose of this noise is to make you feel like you have to do something.
Noise × Time = Anxiety. Anxiety × Market = Wrong Action.
This isn't your problem — it's engineered. Every "breaking news" item plants an impulse to act in your brain. Not because the news is actually important, but because your brain is wired to ignore potential threats.
Fear is fuel — but not fuel to rush into the market. It's fuel that makes those who can't control themselves lose money.
The Counterintuitive Difficulty of Not Acting
We tend to think of "not acting" as laziness or passivity. But those who have actually done it know: in a highly uncertain environment, staying still demands more mental energy than taking action.
Imagine: you're playing a game, and every 30 minutes the system serves up a fresh "urgent recommendation" — telling you to take some action immediately. The advice sounds reasonable, comes from an "authoritative source," and the system emphasizes "if you don't act now, you'll miss the opportunity / take on bigger losses."
Most people will execute. But true masters turn off the system.
Not because they don't care, but because they know: every unnecessary action adds an unnecessary risk. Not acting is active risk management — not passive surrender.
The Discipline of a BTC Holder
The core skill of a BTC long-term holder (LTH) isn't picking coins or timing the market — it's sitting there doing nothing.
In the 2017 bull run, how many people watched charts daily, traded daily, only to get shaken out before the real surge? The 2021 bull run replayed the same story. Every second BTC spends above $60,000 tests who can sit tight the longest.
The Fear & Greed Index is at 24. Extreme fear. The market keeps hinting that you should be afraid, should run, should wait for a better entry. But the real moment will never show up in the form of a "better moment."
The better moment is only visible in hindsight. In the present, it appears only as "keep holding, don't act."
Wu Wei
Laozi said, "The pursuit of learning is to increase day by day; the pursuit of the Way is to decrease day by day." In trading, most people do "the pursuit of learning": learning new indicators, new news, new theories every day. Getting more and more complex.
But those who actually survive in the market do "the pursuit of the Way": cutting away one unnecessary action each day, until only the most important one remains.
And wu wei isn't "doing nothing." Wu wei is doing only what's necessary, and refusing everything else.
Wu wei = not doing what's unnecessary. When F&G = 24, don't panic. During pullbacks, don't stop out prematurely. Until the real conditions appear, stay present. Stay still.
This is the hardest action of all. Because it requires you to hold back when everyone else wants to do something.
